A Year of Accomplishments Culminates with High School Graduation
On Thursday May 30th, RVIS held its fourth graduation for the twenty Grade-12 students at the Ritz Carlton. The event was filled with proud parents, faculty, and dear friends as the Class of 2019 proudly took the stage to celebrate a major milestone in their lives.
Maryam Al Khalifa was the class of 2019's Valedictorian, maintaining the highest cumulative GPA. Maryam also completed the full IB Diploma Program and participated in a wide variety of activities throughout her time at RVIS. In her speech Maryam reflected, “2019 marks my tenth year at this school. I have grown up with some of you, and I have just gotten to know some of you as well. But to me, it doesn’t matter how long you have been in our class, I see us as nothing less of a family, and I am forever grateful to have been a part of this journey with all of you.” Maryam will be staying in Bahrain for her higher education and will be attending the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Medical University, Bahrain.
Ali Irhouma was awarded the Dolphin Award which goes to the student who most embodies the mission of the school. Ali participated in a variety of athletics, service projects, and school-wide events while continually challenging himself academically. The faculty describes Ali as “a student who is caring, compassionate, articulate, and intelligent and shows amazing insight, leadership and maturity.” Ali will be studying engineering at Queen’s University in Canada.
With the diplomas conferred and tassels moved from left to right, the members of the Class of 2019 are about to embark on life’s next adventure with the closing words of Shanaz Rayan, “In order to stand here on stage, we were driven by our passions to work persistently during the last few years. But this determination should not end here, because graduating is only the start of a long journey. And to continue this journey, we must maintain the pursuit of our aspirations.”
