It started on Monday with our young U13 Dolphins competing in their penultimate Tournament of the year. Bolstered by the availability of all players, Coaches Bushmiller and Wells selected our strongest teams of the season. Our girls traveled to Isa Town, where a partisan home crowd welcomed them to the Gym. Our U13 girls fought hard to win one out of their two games, meaning a 5th Seed ranking for the End of Season Tournament on the 28th October. Our U13 home crowd gave an equally raucous welcome to the visiting teams from around the Island. Buoyed by results from the previous week, Bushmillers’ team won their first two games, convincingly. Two close losses (2pts each time) were to follow, but the boys should be encouraged; also earning a 5th Seed ranking for their Tournament. Our U15 and U19 teams also had a busy week with Home and Away fixtures against the Bahrain School and BSB. The U19’s hosted ‘Perennial Powerhouses’ - the Bahrain School, on Tuesday. The Home crowd was the biggest of the season and the expectant group of Dolphin fans were not to be disappointed. The intimidating team from Juffair started strongly in both games, establishing early leads. However, our Dolphins these days are made of ‘sterner stuff’, and with the expert guidance of coaches Adam and Bistriceanu, stayed in the fight. Both first sets went to the wire, with the girls being narrowly edged out and the boys defiantly hanging on for the set. The girls ended up coming second in this contest, but Coach Camy and the team should be proud of the efforts. The boys ended up 2-1 victors - a game report from Coach Adam can be found here. The next test for the U19 teams was at BSB. Our opponents had excellent records leading into this contest; both ‘sitting pretty’ near the top of the League table. Reports from both coaches were positive. Our teams performed outstandingly well against their well seasoned and well drilled counterparts. Although the girls were on the receiving end of a 3-0 scoreline, significant improvements have been made this season and Coach Camy is upbeat about their chances in the Tournament on the 30th October. The boys trailed 2-0 and looked down and out. Not for the first time this season, Coach Adam and his sage words worked wonders! Our boys went on to win 3-2, achieving the number 2 seed for the season ending Tournament. Awesome! Our U15 girls traveled to the Bahrain School for the much anticipated contest against a school that have been difficult to beat in previous seasons. This game was to be a defining moment for this team; a game where every member of the squad stepped up and made significant contributions. In all honesty, the Bahrain School were never really in the contest and the scoreline of 3 - 1 to our High Flying Dolphins, flatters the Juffair team a little. The performance was one of true grit and skill. Coach Waudby couldn’t be prouder of the girls. The second game of the week was our last home game of the season against BSB - the number one ranked team in the Competition. Their team were big and tall. Not to mention supremely confident. The home crowd were treated to one of the finest displays of the season. Captains Isabella and Shaden led from the front and with a supporting cast of Nureen, Laura, Habiba, Noora, Alina and Yusra; we are fast becoming an excellent team and rightfully earned the #1 seed ranking for the Tournament on the 30th October.
