Dolphin Athletics
Last week saw the culmination of many weeks of hard work for our Dolphin Athletes. On Sunday, our U15 girls competed in their final league fixture of the season against a strong St. Chris team. Our girls battled hard throughout but were unable to push through for victory. Special praise for this team must be heaped on coach Meinin and Fry and the playing staff; the majority of this team were made up of girls from grade 6 who have learned a lot from their experience. Our U13 athletes competed in their season ending Tournaments on Monday. The boys, decimated by a mysterious flu that hit the team post Winter break, performed admirably. Although they came second in every contest, no-one ever gave up. Coaches Eminsen and Pinkerton deserve a lot of credit for remaining positive and upbeat during difficult circumstances. The boys finished in 7th place. The girls put in their best performances of the season. Despite narrowly losing their first game, the girls battled through the consolation bracket, winning two penalty shoot outs along the way, to eventually play in the 3rd place play off. They were unsuccessful in their final contest, but 4th place is a great result for a young team who have been expertly guided by Coaches Kneyse and Fry this season. Many of this team will return for the U13's next year, which bodes well for them. The U19 boys basketball completed their final league game against BSB on Wednesday, knowing that only a victory would give them a chance of making the playoffs. It wasn't to be; a defeat meant that we finished 5th. Coach D'Antoni has worked tirelessly with this team and continues to work in preparation for the upcoming MEUC Championship taking place at the Muharraq Club at the end of the month. We wish them well. TRYOUTS for season 3 will be taking place in the coming days and we wish our Dolphin Athletes well for their seasons ahead.
