Dolphin Athletics
During the past 7 days all of our Dolphin Athletic teams competed in their first contests of the Spring Season. I was fortunate to see many of our students compete and the quality of play, understanding as a team and amount of grit and determination shown, gives me a huge amount of optimism for the weeks ahead. The U19 girls, superbly coached by the 'Dream Team' of Meinen and Fry faced IKNS in their first fixture of the season; a team with 4 of the current Bahrain Ladies football team as part of their squad. Coach Meinen outlines the game: 'Yesterday we completed our first U19 game of the season against IKNS. Even though the score wasn’t in our favor, Coach Fry and I were very impressed with how hard the girls worked throughout the entire game and their positive attitudes all the way until the last whistle blew. At half-time one of the players stated, “This is the best I’ve seen us play!” We couldn’t agree more, but we still have work to do to fine tune our skills before our next game against St. Chris on Wednesday.' The U15 girls hosted IKNS in their basketball opening salvo. Buoyed on by the sage words of Coaches Blackbourn and Fields (remotely from the G5 Camp Out), our girls started nervously, but grew into the game. Lots of positives. There is lots for this team to look forward to. I can't wait to see them play next. The U13 boys and girls started us off on Monday. Coaches Adam and Bushmiller had worked their teams hard in the off-season and were confident of a bold showing. The boys team travelled to IKNS for their first Tournament. Bushmiller stated, 'the RVIS U13 Boys Basketball team won their game vs BSB 15-11. Led by Yousif, all the boys played hard and competed throughout the game.' Well done boys! The U13 girls travelled to the Bahrain School for their Tournament and played incredibly courageous basketball. Although they finished 2nd in every game; more importantly they enjoyed time together as a team and playing the game. Our U11 Young Guns travelled to St Christopher's school, in Saar, for their Annual Basketball Tournament. Coaches Lloyd and Akins were incredibly confident after results in previous events this year. The boys did very well indeed and narrowly missed out on a semi-final place, finishing in 5th place out of 16 teams.
