Last weekend, LEVEL 5 hosted the first annual ArtShift, a summit for visual arts educators. Educators from across the GCC, east Asia, and even as far as Central Africa joined in for a weekend of learning, sharing, and collaborating. Participants in the summit were asked to share 50 or 90 minute sessions on contemporary art practices with other arts educators. These experiences focused on creation and production. Art teachers were able to explore these new practices and experience them as their students would in their classrooms. The sessions included topics such as leveraging virtual reality as a medium, graffiti, Kifi Arabic calligraphy, digital polyline art, felting, resin art, and Islamic art tile casting. #RVISionaries art teachers (Heather Meinen and Nicole Cerro), parents, and students helped facilitate many of the workshops at ArtShift. RVIS students Yusra Khasawneh and Sophia Titoni lead workshop experiences on hydro dipping and paint pouring, while Crystal Banton, an RVIS parent, led two workshops on how to work with resin and two part epoxies. It was a fantastic learning experience for all involved, and LEVEL 5 hopes to make this a yearly event hosted in Bahrain!
