Academic Program

Early Childhood
Early Childhood
Our Early Childhood program employs developmentally appropriate, holistic approach to teaching. It focuses on academics and social emotional growth. Throughout the program our team works hard to cultivate the inquisitive nature of children to encourage learning in all environments. The Nursery program at RVIS, offers the internationally recognized Reggio Emilia learning approach. The Nursery program is designed using an emergent curriculum where projects and themes are inspired by the children’s own interests.

Elementary
Elementary School
Offers an experiential curriculum that focuses on the development of the whole child through a wide-range of innovative teaching practices and activities. Teachers at RVIS also have a wide-range of teaching tools to enhance the learning for each student. We believe that children are motivated to learn when they experience success and develop their understanding. They make connections and build their learning around important concepts. In the elementary school student development is nurtured by highly trained, caring, passionate teachers and support staff.

Middle School
Middle School Curriculum
The RVIS middle school curriculum is relevant, challenging, integrative, and exploratory. It is based on challenging international standards and includes learning activities that create opportunities for students. The curriculum provides direction for what young adolescents should know and be able to do. It supports them to achieve the attitudes and behaviors needed for a full, productive, and satisfying life.

Classroom meetings are a way to allow students to have their voice on things that matter to them and to build community. The skills that students can learn in such meetings allows them to acquire skills that are critical for every human being, but sadly, are so often overlooked in schools. Teaching students life skills, such as voicing opinions and sharing concerns, increases their confidence both professionally and in social situations. Along with voicing one’s opinion, self control and discipline are two other critical skills for students to help them build self…

Highlight from Dr. Bicker’s Advisory During the first week of school my Grade 10 advisory girls class generated a list of topics they wanted to explore this year as a way to personalize their learning. Our topic for this week was Climate Change. This was timely given that 16 year old climate activist Greta Thunberg had spoken at the UN Climate Action Summit the previous day.
