MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Middle School serves as an important bridge in our students' development from elementary to high school. The program fosters the growing agency and independence of students through leadership opportunities, positive teacher relationships, and our Advisory program. IGNITE Day enhances our core program by providing opportunities to pursue interests and talents, in addition to key life skills necessary for personal wellbeing and academic success. Single-gender core classes enable us to further personalize the learning needs of boys and girls at this formative stage of our development. Our middle school enables our students to flourish through the myriad of programs, opportunities, and support we provide.

CURRICULUM SUMMARY
Mathematics
The Mathematics Department at RVIS provides class experiences that support a curriculum designed to give our students a solid foundation in mathematics. Diverse teaching strategies empower students with tools that can be used to apply mathematics both inside and outside the classroom.
IGNITE Day
IGNITE Day personalizes learning for students and provides a model schedule for the future of learning. IGNITE Day supports the RVIS mission while developing rich community partnerships, and utilizing teacher talents and passions through schoolwide collaboration.
English Language Arts
Secondary ELA uses a thematic approach to the study of language and literature that promote personalization and agency by giving choice around texts and writing topics. Research shows that reading literature builds empathy by allowing us to experience different perspectives and stories. By studying texts from varied times, cultures, and genres (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, and other art forms), students will learn to comprehend, interpret, and connect through reading and writing.
Fine Arts
The Fine and Performing Arts department at Riffa Views International School aims to provide students with an appreciation of the arts and an understanding of its cultural and academic value. RVIS offers advanced courses for students intending to pursue the arts at the university level and other offerings for students who wish to participate to broaden their cultural awareness and to experience the enjoyment the fine arts afford.
Science
The Science faculty at Riffa Views International School is committed to creating an environment in which students develop a scientific interest in critical thinking, investigation, and problem-solving. Our goal is to cultivate the knowledge, skills, and virtues that make for not only successful science students, but also informed and effective citizens.
Social Sciences
The Social Science Department provides students with an understanding of the world through analysis of the past and discussions of the present. Students are encouraged to pose questions, examine evidence and reach conclusions about the development of humankind.
World Languages
As technology and globalization shorten distances among countries, the ability to communicate in a foreign language has become essential. Therefore, in the World Language Department, we strive to enable students to communicate successfully beyond the classroom setting and to support their role as global citizens in a multilingual and multicultural society.
Information Technology
To live, learn, and work successfully in an increasingly complex and information-rich society, students must be able to use technology appropriately. Our vision involves leveraging technology to establish and maintain an engaging educational setting where students become: capable information technology users information seekers, analyzers, and evaluators problem solvers and decision makers creative and effective users of productivity tools
Physical Education
The intent of the Physical Education Program at RVIS is to offer the students a multitude of quality opportunities to acquire the knowledge and skills, appreciation and self-directed initiative to live a healthy and active lifestyle. The PE Department takes a holistic approach to the development of the student’s physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Islamic Studies
RVIS follows the Bahrain Ministry of Education Islamic Studies curriculum. All students identifying as Muslim on admission to the school are required to take Islamic Studies. The philosophy of the program is based on the belief that Islam is a global lifestyle which revolves around humanity and endeavors to provide a strong relationship with Allah which will be reflected in acts of piety and good manners.
Citizenship
RVIS follows the Bahrain Ministry of Education Citizenship curriculum. All Arab students, (determined by passport country at time of admission to the RVIS) are required to take Citizenship from Grades 6-11.
