Grade 5 Students Set Sail on a Journey of Discovery with Boat Building Project By Ken Davis Director of Marketing and Admissions Published: 2024-02-28 06:26:37 As part of their "Early Explorers Unit," Grade 5 students at Riffa Views International School embarked on a fascinating journey through history, learning about the intrepid individuals who explored the world in times gone by. But their journey didn't stop at just learning about these explorers; they delved into the science and art of boat building, culminating in a hands-on project that brought their studies to life.Throughout the unit, students investigated the mechanics of what makes a boat float and how it is propelled through water. They explored the principles of buoyancy, propulsion, and the design elements that made ancient boats seaworthy. This interdisciplinary approach is a hallmark of STEAM education, where Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics converge to provide a holistic learning experience. The culmination of their studies was a practical test of their newfound knowledge. Each student applied their research and creativity to construct their own miniature boats. The excitement was palpable as they gathered around the swimming pool, ready to launch their vessels and see if they could successfully navigate the waters. This hands-on activity not only tested their shipbuilding skills but also reinforced their understanding of the scientific principles at play. This project is a shining example of how RVIS is committed to providing an education that goes beyond the traditional curriculum. By incorporating STEAM principles into our teaching, we are preparing our students to think critically, solve problems, and embrace challenges with confidence and creativity. We congratulate our Grade 5 students on their successful voyages and look forward to seeing where their curiosity and learning will take them next!
