RVIS Students Innovate for a Sustainable Future By Deena AlReefy Marketing and Communications Specialist Published: 2024-09-26 03:01:05 This week at Riffa Views International School, our students are making headlines with their groundbreaking project, Gascon, as they compete in the UNIDO SDG's Business Innovation Olympics Competition. This initiative is not just a competition; it's a step toward solving real-world problems through innovative technology. The students identified a significant issue in the last-mile delivery of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders, which often leads to delays and outages in fuel supply. Recognizing the importance of reliable energy access, they set out to develop a solution that could streamline this process.Gascon utilizes IoT (Internet of Things) sensors attached to LPG cylinders to monitor fuel levels accurately. These sensors transmit real-time data via low-power networks to a cloud platform, where advanced analytics predict demand trends. This allows distributors to optimize their delivery routes, ensuring timely refills and reducing distribution costs. By preventing dangerous outages and introducing flexible pay-as-you-go payment options, Gascon enhances access to clean cooking energy for communities.Currently, students are developing a prototype that incorporates ultrasonic sensors to measure the fuel levels of LPG cylinders. Early pilot tests have provided valuable feedback, enhancing the durability of the sensors and refining the user interface for distributors. At Riffa Views, we are proud to witness our students taking initiative, applying their knowledge, and working collaboratively to create impactful solutions for pressing global challenges. As they continue to innovate and push boundaries, we look forward to seeing how Gascon can contribute to a more sustainable future.Stay tuned for more updates on our students' journey in the competition!
