Riffa Views International School and Fab Lab Bahrain have partnered to bring design and engineering into the classroom. Through IGNITE Day, a day dedicated to student passions, the Fab Lab team guided students through a five-week project-based seminar on the principles of boat design. Students explored the mathematical calculation behind buoyancy, developed prototypes using CAD design software, and tested their models to determine how well they were able to float.

As a final challenge, the students applied their learning and fabricated a final boat which the you young engineers were able to test via remote control in the school swimming pool. Abdulla Fadi, a Digital Fabricator and lead instructor stressed the importance of this type of learning stating, “young people will be tasked with solving the problems of tomorrow, and it is crucial that we get them involved and interested now.” RVIS and Fab Lab Bahrain hope to pursue other partnerships together to "fan the flames of innovation at the school and in Bahrain,” stated Ms. LaKeicia Denson the Secondary Principal at the school.
