Science of Cooking Field Trip By Jacob LaPlante Science of Cooking Teacher Published: 2022-03-30 05:59:03 Grades 9 and 10 Science of Cooking students visited the Salmabad Farmers Market as a start to their thermal energy unit. Students visited the year-round greenhouses to see how crops are cycled through in rotations based on temperature and humidity. They had the opportunity to experience the roasting of fair trade organic coffee from Melissa's Emporium with Mr. Ali Rajab. Students also learned about the roasting process, the origin and types of coffee beans from around the world and how roasters go through the tasting process of cupping. Students then got to try their hand at roasting their own coffee with a balance of heat, aeration, and cooling. To end the day, students made their own lattes and took home their newly roasted coffee.
